
The challenge
UNHCR wanted to establish a new multi-stakeholder Global Alliance to End Statelessness. The challenge was to get the message out there, to support this vision and mission. Different Kettle was appointed as the communications agency partner to create a compelling narrative pitch, visual identity, core messaging, and a communications strategy to engage key stakeholders who could bring political commitment and drive membership to the Alliance.
Our solution
Together with a team of experts on statelessness from across the globe, including NGOs, civil societies, and inter-parliamentary unions, we embarked on a comprehensive approach to develop the communications strategy. A series of workshops were conducted to understand the different actors essential to ending statelessness, identifying the key people and organisations we needed to convince to become members of the Alliance, and gaining insights into their motivations and roles in eradicating statelessness.

We developed a powerful core narrative and supporting messaging, based on our understanding of the stakeholders. Messages were crafted to resonate with each audience and inspire them to engage and act. Each audience was mapped out in detail, analysing why they were key to ending statelessness. Their roles in the Alliance and the actions we wanted them to take were defined. A communications strategy tailored to each audience was formulated, highlighting the messaging nuances needed to inspire engagement.
The channels and methods to reach each audience effectively were identified, and a comprehensive channel strategy was developed to ensure the messages reached the right people at the right time.


We created a standout visual identity and logo for the Global Alliance and developed a website for members to join, convene, and catalyse change. Additionally, a hero film was produced to launch the initiative, aimed at driving stakeholders to join and play their part in the Alliance.





Outcome
The Alliance was officially unveiled to the world during the High-Level Segment on Statelessness at UNHCR’s annual Executive Committee meeting in Geneva. Our hero film marked this major moment, inspiring global leaders and organisations to take action and driving momentum toward ending statelessness once and for all.
